He was speaking at the opening of a seminar on the promotion of gender equality through education, held in Durban. The seminar brought together government representatives, academics, and young people ahead of the third G20 Working Group on Education taking place today.

Manamela emphasised that gender transformative education goes beyond simply providing access to education for girls.

“It’s about the lived realities of young people in schools, at home, and on the sports field,” he said.

Manamela drew parallels with challenges faced across the region.
