SA’s Groblers Bridge border reopened following flooding

Date: Jan 30, 2025

The Border Management Authority (BMA) says the South Africa’s (SA) Groblers Bridge border, outside Lephalale in Limpopo province, has been reopened.

Operations at the port of entry were temporarily suspended due to flooding that caused damage to infrastructure.

BMA says the port that links SA and Botswana is now fully operational and it is ready for the movement of people and goods.

The BMA’s Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Communication, Mmemme Mogotsi says the closure of the port was to ensure safety of employees and travelers.

Mogotsi adds, “The flooding necessitated the temporary suspension of services to allow for comprehensive safety measures and assessments of the infrastructure and restoration of flooded facilities. BMA commended the coordinated response of South African Revenue Services, Border Management officials, border stakeholders as well as the Botswana government.”
