DRC, Rwanda travelled to Washington to sign peace agreement

Date: Jun 27, 2025

The Foreign Affairs Ministers of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda have travelled to Washington to sign the peace agreement between the two countries.

The peace agreement is aimed at resolving the conflict in the Eastern part of the DRC.

In May the former South African President Thabo Mbeki warned that the agreement between Kinshasa and Kigali will not solve the problems in the Eastern DRC.

“The notion that the government of the DRC can negotiate and the government of Rwanda must meet and sign the peace agreement is fine. Thinking that signing is going to solve the problems in eastern DRC is wrong.

This has been tried before. Whatever the Americans will do to encourage Kinshasa and Kigali to get together and sign an agreement it does not solve the problems of DRC, adds Mbeki
