US rules on officials to retain custody, control migrants sent to South Sudan

Date: May 21, 2025

The United States (US) Judge has ruled that US officials must retain custody and control of migrants sent to South Sudan.

This is despite a court order restricting removals to other countries.

Judge Brian Murphy issued the ruling after an emergency hearing.

The ruling comes after attorneys for immigrants said that the United States President Donald Trump’s administration appears to have begun deporting people from Myanmar and Vietnam to South Sudan.
