He said he believes they are not only the hope and opportunity for Botswana and Batswana to change the government, but that the party is front runner, the most stable and the most organized Party in Botswana.
This comes after Botswana's High Court confirmed four presidential candidates who will run in the country upcoming elections, set to be held on October 30.
“For the BCP, 2024 presents the best opportunity to change government in Botswana,” Saleshando said. “So, completing this nomination process presents a lot of excitement and a lot of hope. Hope that Batswana heard our message. We are the first party to complete the manifesto, to complete the primary elections, to complete the nomination process. We hope that Batswana can see that this is a party that is very serious about them as a people.”
He emphasised the importance of addressing pressing issues such as unemployment, poverty, and inequality through innovative policies and initiatives. “Our manifesto for the 2024 elections is situated around ‘An economy that works for us all’. We want to see each and every Motswana able to sustain their lives as our primary key in our manifesto is the creation of jobs. We want to reclaim the exported jobs as this country exports jobs in high numbers and take them to Batswana,” said Saleshando. Saleshando stated that provided he becomes the next President of Botswana after the election, he will create over 100, 000s(100 000) of jobs.
Saleshando used the word “Batswana,” which collectively refers to all citizens of Botswana.
The President is elected indirectly by parliament in Botswana, with recent efforts to introduce direct voting rejected following nationwide consultations.
