Black Sash, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, played an important role in SA’s liberation struggle.
It says the grant is necessary as the country experiences high unemployment and escalating poverty. National Advocacy Manager at Black Sash, Hoodah Abrahams-Fayker says a basic income grant would ease the economic burden on many citizens.
“In terms of the work that we need to do, we need to look at obviously, how do we address these consistent challenges of unemployment, inequality and poverty. Our work in terms of advocating for a universal basic income and ensuring a social protections for all, is at the heart of our work so that we can have a country where everyone lives with dignity and a standard of living that is adequate for all,” Abrahams-Fayker said.
