Table Mountain blaze still going strong as firefighter is injured

Date: Apr 28, 2025

South Africa's (SA) City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, confirmed that a firefighter fell and injured both of her legs.

Carelse stated that no major flare-ups were reported overnight. The fire initially broke out on Friday.

"On Saturday, conditions worsened, the wind picked up, the fire jumped over Ou Kaapse Weg, and now we are dealing with a blaze stretching from Tokai all the way to Fish Hoek, Clovelly, Kalk Bay, and, on the other side, down to Noordhoek," he explained.

He added that a large number of firefighting teams remain on the scene, including City Fire and Rescue Services, Table Mountain National Park, NCC, and Volunteer Wildfire Services.

"We have a significant number of firefighters on site, not only City firefighters but also teams from Table Mountain National Park, NCC, and Volunteer Wildfire Services. This is a collaborative effort between multiple agencies working towards a common goal of extinguishing the blaze. Hopefully, the weather will be on our side today. We have cooler conditions this morning, but once the mist evaporates, we will have our hands full, especially with the wind expected to change direction," Carelse said.
