SA President highlights shared vision with EU for multilateral world order

Date: Mar 18, 2025

South Africa's (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa has reaffirmed the country's alignment with the European Union (EU) in advocating for a multilateral world order.

Speaking in his weekly letter to the nation on Monday, Ramaphosa emphasised that this shared vision is rooted in upholding the principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter, adherence to international law, and strengthening global cooperation institutions.

Ramaphosa's remarks come in the wake of the 8th SA-EU Summit, held in Cape Town last week, where leaders from both sides discussed key issues of mutual interest.

Ramaphosa highlighted the EU's agreement with SA's stance on the urgent need for reforming the UN Security Council. He stressed that such reforms would make the council more inclusive, efficient, and democratic, reflecting the realities of the modern world.

In addition, Ramaphosa noted the EU's support for SA's G20 Presidency, which focuses on themes of solidarity, equality, and sustainable development.

As a G20 member, the EU's backing underscores the importance of collaboration in addressing global challenges and advancing shared priorities.
