SA government strengthening efforts in fight against organised crime

Date: Jul 15, 2025

Minister in the South African (SA) Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says efforts to fight organised crime in the county, are continuously being strengthened

Ntshavheni was delivering the department's budget vote to Parliament, in light of damning allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. The top police officer recently pointed to serious safety and security concerns, which among others, implicated Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has since announced a judicial commission of inquiry to probe corruption allegations in the police and placed Mchunu on special leave. Ntshavheni says SA’s State Security Agency is also working with local and international partners to stamp out illicit financial flows.

“We have made significant progress in this regard, contributing to SA's substantial action items, paving the way for an onsite visit and the country's anticipated removal from the grey list. We are also seized with addressing the threats by gangsterism and all its permutations including kidnappings and demand for ransom,” Ntshavheni says.
