The accusations have raised serious concerns amidst growing violence linked to extremist groups operating in the region.
Shocking footage shared online this week has revealed dozens of lifeless bodies, mostly women, children, and the elderly, showing signs of brutal treatment, including bound hands and feet. The victims are believed to belong to the Fulani ethnic group, a group the Burkinabe authorities have accused of supporting extremist factions affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State.
Human Rights Watch has condemned the incident, claiming that at least 58 people were killed in the Solenzo area, urging the government to carry out a full investigation. In response, a Spokesperson for the government insisted that the deceased were human shields used by jihadist fighters during a clash with local militias.
