Dr Andre Hattingh, who started the 21-day mission in Oudtshoorn, is currently travelling through SA’s KwaZulu-Natal province.
Hattingh explained, "This is our sixth year doing this. Just for interest's sake, when I get to Upington this year, we would have circumnavigated the Earth once, the same distance. So, the idea is to cover the northernmost, easternmost, southernmost, and westernmost parts of SA. By doing this, we’re essentially making a circle around the children of SA, showing them that we care about them, no matter where they live within this circle. The ride covers a total distance of 7 000km, and as I said, this is our sixth year."
Through this initiative, the retired doctor hopes to enhance healthcare access for children in remote areas by supporting his non-profit organisation, Pediatric Care Africa.
