The decision, made in accordance with the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, sets in motion a formal inquiry into her conduct.
Professor Michael Kpessa-Whyte of the State Interest and Governance Authority told Channel Africa that the President is “following the constitutional process to the letter.”
He emphasised that the suspension does not amount to an accusation of guilt but is part of a procedure designed to uphold the integrity of the office.
“Once a petition is received, the President consults the Council of State, which then activates its Judicial Committee. A prima facie case was established, and the next constitutional step is suspension pending investigation,” said Kpessa-Whyte.
