Date: Apr 13, 2025

Two girls have died of suspected food poisoning on the outskirts of Mahikeng in the North West province of South Africa (SA).

The girls, aged between eight and ten, are believed to be siblings.

Reports say they bought snacks at a local tuck shop in Ramosadi village.

The girls died on Friday after apparently complaining of stomach pains.

Provincial police Spokesperson Adel Myburg says, “Two girls got sick at a local school; one is eight years old and the other is ten years old. The school took them to the local clinic; unfortunately, the eight-year-old passed away. According to the initial information received, the elder sister, who is ten years old, indicated that they bought snacks at a house in Ramosadi village. After eating the snacks, they apparently experienced stomach cramps and aches when they got to school.”
