SA Deputy Minister Letsike champions youth interests at Kazan Global Youth Summit

Date: Aug 21, 2024

South Africa's (SA) Deputy Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, is participating in the Third Kazan Global Youth Summit held in Russia from August 21 to 24, 2024.

This annual summit is a convergence point for young leaders, policymakers, diplomats, and experts to discuss pressing issues affecting the global youth.

The 2024 Summit is particularly focused on three pivotal themes: the digitalisation wave sweeping across the globe, the integration of modern tools in shaping youth policy, and the preservation of traditional values amidst the tides of globalisation.

Letsike is slated to address these themes in a high-level session dedicated to Youth Well-being in the 21st Century, with a special emphasis on the mental health challenges faced by young people worldwide.

In addition to her keynote speech, Letsike will engage in strategic bilateral discussions, ensuring that SA's national interests and priorities regarding women, youth, and persons with disabilities are well-represented and influential on the global stage.

The summit is expected to culminate in a Joint Resolution of the Action Plan, laying the groundwork for collaborative children's and youth initiatives and long-term cooperation programs across the Islamic World, BRICS, and the Asia-Pacific region.

A dedicated session will also explore the burgeoning fields of artificial intelligence and virtual reality, highlighting digital innovations and trends among the youth.

SA's active role in BRICS Youth Summits and Ministerial meetings since 2015 underscores its commitment to these dialogues, with Letsike poised to relay the outcomes and strategic feedback from both the BRICS Youth Summit and the Ministers' Meeting.
