Tension rising in Mozambique following October 9 election results announcement

Date: Oct 25, 2024

Tension is rising in Mozambique following the October 9 election results announcement, which show that the ruling Frelimo Party has won by over 70% of the vote.

The Frelimo party has ruled the country since 1975, when the nation gained independence from Portugal.

Frelimo's Daniel Chapo will now take over as the country's next President, from current President, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.

The elections revealed a shift with the opposing Podemo party's Venancio Mondlane only receiving 20% of the vote, while the largest opposition party Renamo, led by Ossufo Momade, got 5% of the vote.

This morning apparently is calm, but people are actually cautioned. They were cautioned yesterday actually to be in the rules because last night when the Venasimo Jami spoke again on Facebook, online life on Facebook, he actually said that today is the second, it's a third day to be there.

Yes, of course, because the first day was on Monday and yesterday was the second and today is the third day. So he just said that they must continue.

And last night also a lot of people were out actually burning tires, blocking the roads. All protests were all over the country, all provinces.
