Logistical challenges delaying arrival of SANDF troops: Minister

Date: Jun 13, 2025

South African (SA) Defence Minister Angie Motshekga says they are experiencing logistical challenges in bringing home the first group of soldiers.

These troops were part of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) force deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

She was addressing the media at the Tempe Military base in Bloemfontein.

Motshekga says they are certain they have boarded the plane which will bring them back home.

Two-hundred and fifty soldiers were expected to arrive at the Air Force base Bloemspruit, at midday.

Motshekga says the soldiers might arrive anytime between today and tomorrow, at the latest.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) lost 14 soldiers in the war.

Their bodies were repatriated to SA earlier this year.

About 250 soldiers will be welcomed by Motshekga, alongside military veterans and military command council.
