The driver had reportedly stopped at a traffic light along Wild Chestnut Street when he was shot by unknown suspects.
The Rea Vaya Bus Company has temporarily suspended its services until further notice.
Gauteng province Police Spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says, “The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage, and the police are following up on all leads as the investigation continues.”
The bus company says the incident has disrupted public transport services in the area, with authorities working to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Police have now confirmed that two Rea Vaya bus drivers were shot dead in separate incidents in Soweto last night.
