BMA working with Zimbabwe to prevent entry of illegal immigrants

Date: Jan 3, 2025

The Border Management Authority (BMA) says it’s working with its Zimbabwean counterparts to prevent illegal immigrants from entering South Africa (SA).

BMA Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato assessed readiness at the biggest land port, the Beitbridge Border Post, between Zimbabwe and SA on Thursday ahead of the end of the festive season.

The border post is a critical gateway linking SA with the Southern African Development Community region.

Authorities launched a crime-fighting campaign yesterday to address pressing challenges.

Dr Masiapato says they expect to see an increase in vehicles and people towards the end of the weekend.

With its high volume of travellers and goods, the border post also serves as a hotspot for illicit activities, including the smuggling of contraband.
