Three accused in court for alleged theft of $580 000 at SA president’s farm

Date: May 18, 2025

The trial of the three suspects in the February 2020 theft at farm of South Africa’s (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa was expected to resume on Monday

The matter was expected to be heard in the Modimole Regional Court in the country’s Limpopo province, where Immanuela David and siblings, Floriana and Ndilinasho Joseph, stand accused of stealing over $580 000 in cash, hidden inside the president’s sofa.  David, who is accused number one, was denied bail as he is deemed a flight risk, while his co-accused were granted bail.
During the pre-trial last year, the prosecutor, Advocate Nkhetheni Munyai, said that the number of the state witnesses maybe be reduced.

“The state is ready that the matter can be set down for trial. The state intends to call about 23 witness in the matter. That number maybe reduced some of the evidence maybe dealt with in terms of statute like your 212, section 216 of the criminal procedure act 51 of 1977 and evidence that of technical nature is only that of cell phone mapping,” Munyai told the court at the time.
