South Africans brace for cold weather conditions this weekend

Date: Jul 4, 2025

The South African (SA) Weather Service has warned of a marked drop in temperatures, with banded showers and increasingly strong winds

In the country’s KwaZulu‑Natal province, gusty 40 km/h winds and a 60% chance of rain across Durban and inland areas are predicted. Coastal and mountainous zones, especially the Drakensberg highlands, may face heavy showers, icy lows, and even light snow at elevation.
Citizens have been urged to prepare for a dramatic change in weather to an influx of rain and gusty winds as a cold front approaches. Forecaster at the Service, Lehlohonolo Thobela says the cold front expected to result in damaging winds and waves.

“If you in the Western Cape, expect cloudy conditions, with cold temperatures and a 30% chance of showers and rain that would be scattered to widespread to south west parts. In the Gauteng province, we expected a 30% chance of rain and showers with cold temperatures, but scattered over the southern parts of the province,” Thobela said.
