There could be a resurgence of violence at the Lebombo Border Post: BMA

Date: Nov 14, 2024

The Border Management Authority in South Africa (BMA) says they have received intelligence from the Mozambican government indicates that there could be a resurgence of violence at the Lebombo Border Post.

The BMA's Spokesperson Mmeme Mogotsi says by *yesterday afternoon they closed the port of entry between South Africa and Mozambique due to renewed political tension in Mozambique. Mogotsi says the processing of people and cargo later resumed. She however says they remain on high alert,” The Maputo corridor is a very important corridor for trade. But when we are faced with situations we are able to divert cargo processing. We have a port of entry that's 50 kilometres away from the Lebombo port of entry that normally when everything has come to a halt, we redirect the traffic through that port of entry called Mananga. It would put travellers in cargo transit into Swaziland and eventually getting them into Mozambique.”
