SANAC mobilises to get 1.1 mln HIV patients off treatment

Date: Feb 25, 2025

The South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) says it will immediately mobilise its members across the country to find the 1.1 million people living with HIV who are currently not on treatment.

This follows the launch of the new HIV treatment campaign, which aims to get the missing patients on treatment by the end of the year.

The campaign is part of the country’s efforts to also get 95 percent of people diagnosed with HIV, to receive and adhere to antiretroviral therapy (ART) to achieve viral suppression.

SANAC Chief Executive Officer Thembisile Xulu says, “SANAC has galvanised all the SANACs within the provinces to make sure that everybody hits the ground running to find the 1.1 million.

The targets have been broken down to meet not just the 2025 targets but also the 2028 plan, by province, by district and by facility so that it’s easier for them to find, because the facilities know their patients and if they work with all the stakeholders like the traditional healers and leaders they will be able to find them and bring them back on care.”
