This year's event, themed "Celebrating 30 years of Democracy towards Women's Development," is not just a commemoration but a vibrant re-enactment of the historic 1956 women's march against apartheid pass laws.
The day's proceedings will begin with a symbolic march from Lillian Ngoyi Square to the Union Buildings, tracing the steps of the approximately 20 000 women who, decades ago, united from all corners of the nation to stand against injustice.
Nomazwe Ntlokwana, Spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation, emphasised the significance of the march, stating it is "an opportunity for us to retrace the footsteps of our forebears who walked that journey to the Union Buildings."
