Date: Feb 3, 2025

The Home Affairs Department in South Africa (SA) has announced the successful eradication of a visa and permit backlog that dates back more than a decade.

This significant achievement paves the way for more efficient and digitally transformed Home Affairs, aimed at delivering dignity and creating jobs.

Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber will host a celebration in Sandton, north of Johannesburg, on Monday to thank the team that worked tirelessly to clear the backlog. He will be joined by his deputy, Njabulo Nzuza, and other dignitaries.

Minister Schreiber highlighted the importance of this achievement, stating that it marks the beginning of a new era for Home Affairs. "By clearing this backlog, we are not only improving our services but also contributing to job creation and economic growth. A digitally transformed Home Affairs will ensure that we can meet the needs of our citizens more effectively and efficiently," Schreiber said.
