Fifth of nine batches of SANDF soldiers from DRC to arrive on Thursday

The fifth cohort of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members returning from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) peacekeeping mission is expected to arrive on Thursday.

The fourth batch of over 200 members, that arrived at the Bram Fischer International Airport in Bloemfontein today, will also go through the demobilization process at the Tempe Military Base.

This is part of the ongoing phased withdrawal from the SADC peacekeeping mission in the Eastern Democratic Republic Congo (DRC).

Major General Godfrey Thulare says, “From the fourth flight we are going to go to the fifth flight which is going to come on the 19th and like I said before the last flight is going to be on the 25th. All in all, is going to be nine flights so we are almost halfway and tomorrow the second group as well is leaving going back home they have completed their demobilization today.”
