Elections campaign in Senegal will happen over Ramadan for the first time

Campaigning in the Senegal Presidential elections will happen over the Muslim holy month of Ramadan for the first time.

The newly confirmed election date of March 24 also leaves Presidential candidates with only have two weeks to be on the campaign trail instead of the usual 21 days.

Tensions have gripped the country since early February, when a bid by President Macky Sall to postpone by 10 months a vote that had been due to take place on February 25 provoked widespread protests.

The new date leaves candidates with more then two weeks rather than the usual 21 days according to the constitution.

So, it also means for the first time also there would be a campaign taking place during Ramadan which begins this Monday.
