Southern African Development Community (SADC) terminated the deployment of its troops to the DRC last month. Operations were halted due to a major advance of Rwandan-back
Nduhungirehe confirmed to SABC News that they were providing safe passage to SADC Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC) and the equipment from the their troop contributing countries which include South Africa, Malawi and Tanzania. SADC decided to terminate its deployment in eastern DRC following the deaths of 17 soldiers, bringing their December 2023 deployment to help restore peace in eastern DRC, in support of the DRC Government, to a rapid end. SAMIDRC troops were confined to their bases for months following the Rwandan-backed M23 advance in the region. Reports suggest the SAMIDRC convoy will travel to Chato in north-western Tanzania before repatriation to various countries.
