Date: Jun 19, 2025

Police in the South Africa’s North West province are investigating three cases of statutory rape after three girls aged 14, 15 and 16 years-old girls found to be pregnant during a check-up at local clinic in the town of Christiana

Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone says the cases were opened by a nurse after the three teenagers visited the clinic unaccompanied by their parents or guardians.

“Taking into account the seriousness and prevalence of incidents of Gender Based Violence, especially crimes against women and girl children, the police's Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, was notified to immediately investigate the possible contravention of the Sexual Offences and Related Matters Amendment Act, 2007,” Mokgwabone said.
