Date: Oct 9, 2024

The Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival celebrated the fusion of technology, art, and African culture at the Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The festival took place from October 2-5, 2024.

This year's theme, #UntilUnlocked, explored new frontiers in digital creativity, from artificial intelligence to quantum computing.

Festival Director Eduardo Cachucho emphasized the festival’s mission: “We’re reaching new levels in cultural expression, professional achievement, and personal freedom... unlocking possibilities we couldn’t imagine before.” He also highlighted the “huge opportunities for jobs, making money, and gaining global recognition” that the festival brings to African creators.

The event featured workshops, a conference, and the prestigious Fak’ugesi Awards, celebrating innovators in immersive video, gaming, animation, and digital art.

The festival drew industry leaders from countries including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Mexico, and the United Kingdom, showcasing the importance of African perspectives in the global digital economy.

One of the creators at the event, Jacob Dube, expressed his appreciation for the festival, calling it a vital platform for African innovators to collaborate. "What I like about this festival is that it has made me collaborate with other creators from our neighboring countries. The breakaway sessions helped me a lot," Dube said. He highlighted how the festival fosters collaboration and learning, bringing together creative minds from across the continent.
