This is a statement made by Abdoulie Janneh of the African Peer Review Mechanism.
Speaking to SABC News on the margins of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) two-day summit in Johannesburg, Janneh says conflicts on the continent result from poor governance.
“I hope that they come to common sense, and they will come out with the spirit of preserving the nation they fought so hard for and therefore engage themselves in dialogue so that they achieve the developmental goals they set for their country.”
The theme of the two-day gathering centres on the importance of governance and how it can influence conflict prevention, as the continent continues to face numerous disputes.
The APRM was established by the African Union in 2003 to strengthen accountability, transparency and sustainable development amongst member states.
This comes as conflicts continue to intensify in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, leaving many civilians to fend for themselves.
