Mamabolo was speaking during a two-day symposium hosted by the IEC in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The event focuses on reflecting on the successes and challenges of the Political Party Funding Act since its implementation in 2021.
Responding to questions about the IEC's role in regulating party finances, Mamabolo emphasised the Commission's responsibility to remain within the bounds of the law as defined by Parliament.
"We felt that that is a policy matter that the IEC should not involve itself with. And I think we are correct, it's a matter that must be decided by the policyholder," said Mamabolo.
He added, "So you can see that we are really trying to navigate a trapezium, to ensure that there are areas in which we can be involved, and areas in which we can't be involved, because of the sensitive political nature of the topic we're handling today."
