SA President criticised for conduct in meeting with Trump

Date: May 26, 2025

Secretary-General of South Africa’s (SA) uMkhonto Wesizwe Party, Floyd Shivambu, has criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa, accusing him of misrepresenting the country during his recent meeting with United States (US) President Donald Trump.

Speaking at a memorial lecture in honour of Africa Day in Thembisa, Ekurhuleni, over the weekend, Shivambu argued that Ramaphosa’s approach to the meeting undermined SA’s power and potential on the global stage.

“We decried the very unfortunate misrepresentation of SA by Mr Cyril Ramaphosa in America,” Shivambu stated.

“The manner, the demeanour, the mannerisms, the way he approached that was humiliating and embarrassing, to all black people in SA, across the African continent, and in the African diaspora. We cannot continue to display colonial attitudes towards former colonial masters.”
