Ramaphosa delivered his speech on Thursday evening. Political parties had the opportunity to debate it during a marathon sitting on Friday.
In his speech, the first to be delivered as the head of the Government of National Unity (GNU), the President said the seventh administration would focus on inclusive growth and job creation, reducing poverty and the high cost of living.
He also added that his administration would build a capable, ethical and developmental state.
While those in the GNU did not sugarcoat the speech, the opposition benches criticised Ramaphosa, saying he did not bring anything new to the table.
The Parliamentary leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, Dr. John Hlophe, repeated one of the party’s election promises that the section dealing with land expropriation in the Constitution must be amended.
