The suspect arrived on a flight from São Paulo, Brazil, and was apprehended after authorities grew suspicious.
Following the arrest, a medical examination revealed that the man had swallowed multiple capsules suspected to contain cocaine. An x-ray confirmed the presence of these objects in his system, and police are still working to recover the drugs. The suspect is expected to appear in court at the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court later this week.
This arrest comes just weeks after two SA nationals were apprehended at the same airport for drug-related offences. Police also seized a large quantity of cocaine with a street value estimated at $269 000.
Police Spokesperson Amanda van Wyk stated that the suspect is still in the process of expelling the ingested cocaine-filled capsules.
