The meeting, chaired by Zimbabwe, comes at a pivotal moment as the continent grapples with outbreaks of cholera, polio, and the newly emerged m-pox.

From Monday, discussions have been underway to evaluate the progress of previously set agendas and to take stock of the health landscape across the SADC nations.

Dr Aspect Maunganidze, Zimbabwe's Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Chairperson of the Meeting highlighted the importance of the gathering, "We are convening as the current chair to lead a sectorial meeting on health, which spans from the 4th to the 8th. Our focus has been on a range of health issues pertinent to our region, especially public health emergencies. The recent outbreaks of cholera and the advent of m-pox in Rwanda have necessitated a unified response."

The summit aims to foster collaboration and formulate strategies to combat these diseases, ensuring a coordinated effort across member states.
