SA President to attend the inauguration of Zimbabwean President

Date: Sep 4, 2023

South Africa's(SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa will be among the heads of state to attend the inauguration of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa today.

Mnangagwa won the recent elections. His main challenger Nelson Chamisa has rejected the results. Observer missions slammed the polls saying it didn't meet international practice and some voters were deprived the opportunity to vote.

Ramaphosa has congratulated the people of Zimbabwe for holding elections to elect the President, national assembly and local government representatives. SA and Zimbabwe are close partners. Some of the leaders who have also congratulated Mnangagwa include Namibian President Hage Geingob, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and others. Ramaphosa will be accompanied by International Relations and Co-operation Minister Naledi Pandor. The presidential inauguration ceremony will take place in Harare. Meanwhile, the opposition has rejected the election results.
