Speaking at the Nelson Mandela University's Fisheries Law Enforcement Academy anti-corruption conference in the Eastern Cape province, Zondo reflected on the state capture era and criticised efforts by some in Parliament to protect the then president from scrutiny over his alleged involvement in the scandal.
Zondo emphasised the need for robust legal frameworks, effective structures, and strong processes in the fight against corruption, alongside greater protection for whistle-blowers.
“We all agree that whistle-blowers must be given protection, and I hope we all agree that they must be given incentives to blow the whistle,”** he said. “Maybe this is easier to do in respect of whistle-blowers, but there may be challenges on how it is done in respect of corruption resistors.”
