The joint gathering is to hear the inquests into deaths of former ANC President, Chief Albert Luthuli, and Human Rights Lawyer, Griffiths Mxenge.
This comes after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) announced the re-opening of the inquests into the deaths of both Luthuli and Mxenge.
Luthuli, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former ANC President, was killed in a train crash in 1967, a version of events that his family has long disputed.
Mxenge, a prominent human rights lawyer, was murdered in Umlazi south of Durban in 1981.
KZN ANC task team Spokesperso, Fanle Sibisi, says high profile leaders and branch members of the party are expected to attend the gathering.
"Indeed today is a historic moment as we mark a significant day in the life of our struggle with a first sitting of the inquest into the mysterious death of Luthuli and Mxenge. We can confirm that ANC national leadership, as well as provincial and regional leadership would descend on Pietermaritzburg, to observe this historic moment and give."
