Khuzwayo was part of the 'Group of 20 Nightingales for Tanganyika'. The ANC had recruited and sent the group to present-day Tanzania to help that country mitigate against the exodus of British nurses following independence in 1961.
Khuzwayo, who was affectionately called 'Fitho', died after an illness earlier this month in Johannesburg at the age of 88. Khuzwayo returned to SA at the dawn of democracy.
