Mozambique opposition leader postpones protests, urges supporters to remain patient

Date: Jan 6, 2025

PODEMOS Presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane has announced the postponement of the next phase of protests, citing technical reasons and unforeseen circumstances.

Mondlane, who has rejected the results of the October general elections, has become a prominent figure in the ongoing protests in Mozambique.

In a Facebook post, Mondlane explained that the postponement was a gesture of respect and aimed at ensuring that the message is delivered clearly and thoroughly. He urged his supporters to remain patient during this period. "We must ensure that our message is heard loud and clear," Mondlane stated.

Mondlane has previously accused the government of fostering chaos and terror to suppress the protests. Despite the delay in demonstrations, he remains committed to fighting for electoral truth and justice.

The swearing-in of deputies from the supporting party has been a contentious issue, with Mondlane asserting that it would be seen as a betrayal of the people fighting for electoral truth. He is expected to return from exile this Thursday, ahead of the inauguration.
