Date: Nov 18, 2024

United States Ambassador in South Africa, Reuben Brigety, has announced that he’s bowing out.

Brigety has resigned and will leave office on January 10, 2025.

US diplomats serve at the pleasure of the President and with the recent election in the US, Brigety says the American people have expressed their choice for the future direction of the country.

He says during his tenure in South Africa, he witnessed remarkable progress in the US-South Africa partnership.

Brigety says on trade, they supported South African entities in accessing the US market through the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and fostered investments in the automotive, minerals, agricultural products and transportation sectors.

He says these initiatives have contributed significantly to the country’s economic development and created over 200 000 jobs in South Africa.

The American diplomat says collaboration on health has also been impactful, with massive investments through the US President Emergency Plan for Aids Relief.

Brigety has further thanked South Africa for its warm hospitality and unwavering partnership.
