“SA GNU agrees to respect rule of law, protect the independence of institutions’

South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa says the Government of National Unity (GNU) has agreed to respect the rule of law and protect the independence of institutions, including freedom of the media.

Ramaphosa was speaking when he replied to the joint debate on his Opening of Parliament Address. “As part to the GNU, we are in agreement on the importance of entrenching our constitutional democracy and the rule of law.

“We will continue to exit our every effort to safeguard the independence of our institutions, particularly the judiciary, the freedom of speech the freedom of the media and all of institutions that support our democracy.”
