DRC celebrates 65 years of independence

Today the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is celebrating its 65 years of independence from Belgian colonial powers.

Today, June 30, 2025, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) family joins the government and the people of the DRC, a Member State of SADC, in celebrating 64 years of independence. 

The DRC Independence Day is celebrated on June 30 every year. 

The day marks the country's historic independence from the Belgian colonial powers which happened on June 30, 1960. 

Belgian and Congolese political leaders held a Round Table Conference in Brussels beginning on 18 January 1960. 

At the end of the conference, on January 27, 1960, it was announced that elections would be held in the DRC on May 22, 1960, and full independence was granted on June 30, 1960.
