SA disaster management teams on high alert following weather warning

Date: Apr 14, 2025

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in South Africa has issued a stern warning to residents across large parts of the province.

This comes after an alert level four weather warning was issued for disruptive rain, urging the public to exercise extreme caution.

The weather forecast has indicated that persistent rainfall is expected over most parts of the province especially those along the coast including eThekwini. It has further indicated that that the severe weather could lead to flooding of critical infrastructure, mudslides and major disruption of traffic flow.

“The province for COGTA in KZN, reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi has placed disaster management teams on high alert across the province. Areas that I expected to be affected include the district of uMzinyathi, Amajuba, uMgungundlovu, iLembe, eThekwini metro, uGu district and King Cetshwayo. Disaster management teams will continue to monitor inclement weather conditions across the province and will provide assistance where required,” COGTA provincial Spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila, elaborates.
