Suspected mining syndicate leaders face court in SA

Date: Dec 10, 2024

The Sabie Magistrate's Court in South Africa's Mpumalanga province, on Monday, witnessed the appearance of eight individuals accused of orchestrating a series of crimes within the mining sector.

The charges levelled against them include kidnapping, illegal mining operations, and violations of the Immigration Act. Authorities believe these suspects to be the masterminds behind a scheme that involved abducting foreign nationals and coercing them into unlawful mining activities.

The court has adjourned the case until the 18th of the current month, pending the assignment of legal representation for the accused. It has been disclosed that the alleged culprits are of Lesotho nationality and were apprehended at the South Sabie Mine Shaft, where they were reportedly operating underground.
