Date: Jun 5, 2025

The South African (SA) Postbank has warned social grant beneficiaries using its Black Cards and SA Social Security Agency Gold Cards to be vigilant in the wake of a rise in fraud scams targeting their cards and PIN information

The recent scam involves fraudsters impersonating officials from the state-owned banking institution and targeting social beneficiaries in their homes. Postbank says their officials will never show up unannounced or without an appointment. The Chief Commercial Officer at Postbank, Thami Cele has re-assured social grant beneficiaries that the Black Cards and Gold Cards are operational.

"Both those cards are workin they are operational, there are no issues with them. We hear that there are people who are trying to scam people at their homes by saying they are from Postbank. We will not show up at your house if you have not been the one that invited us to your house. If a person shows up uninvited then you know that is not a person from Postbank regardless of the fact that some of them we hear that they are wearing Postbank uniforms and even Postbank branded car," Cele said.
