The register, which includes the names of over 32 500 convicted sex offenders, is expected to be made accessible to the public without the need for an application. The Minister believes that this move will help protect children from those convicted of sex-related crimes.
"I have said to the team the current method of accessing the register is inefficient and ineffective where a certificate needs to be applied for and it takes a long to get it and it depends whether a school or an early development centre did apply. This means that many of our children are at risk of being in the hands of a sex offender, some of them are repeated offenders and can continue to do it," Kubayi said.
