IDO held an international dance contest at Sun City’s Super Bowl, in the North West, yesterday.
Twenty-three-year-old Clarishca Viljoen from Alberton, in Johannesburg, was crowned an African Solo Champion.
Dancers from parts of the continent gathered for four days to showcase their craft.
“We travel overseas, but there are a lot of dancers that dance in our competitions who can never get overseas due to visas and other expenses because they are all from developing areas,” says the IDO’s Beverly Wood.
She says she thinks the best way is to bring the IDO competition to Africa.
“We want them to experience the competition and bring more and more international countries. We want them to experience it in their hometown,” adds Wood.
