The group is reacting to Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube’s announcement of the 2024 matric results on Monday.
The Class of 2024 obtained a matric pass rate of 87.3%. The national pass rate for the National Senior Certificate examinations has increased from 82.9% in 2023.
SADAG Operations Director Cassey Chambers says putting proper systems in place can help learners overcome setbacks and still achieve their goals.
“I think for a lot of Matrics, they are going to deal with a real roller coaster of emotions. Some are going to be really disappointed because they didn’t get the results that they wanted, or maybe they missed out on a university entrance or failed an exam, or they are some learners who failed and are dealing with that. Dealing with disappointment doesn’t have to be the end of the world, yes, it’s hard, but there are so many options nowadays that 10, or 20 years ago were not available for matric. If they feel there is no one to turn to, there is always someone available at SADAG, we have free 24-hour counseling, 24 hours a day.”
