Date: Oct 20, 2024

The South African Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube says the department is ready to administer the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations which commenced this Monday.

Over 720 000 full-time and 155 000 part-time candidates will sit for the matric exam across South Africa, while 16 0000 students will undertake Independent Examination Boards exams.

The exams are set to run from October 21 to November 27.

Gwarube has been briefing the media in Pretoria on the department’s readiness for the exams.

“The setting, printing and distribution of question papers has been completed with a total of 162 quality-assured papers approved for this year’s NSC exam. Taking lessons from previous instances of editing errors, the department has introduced additional quality gates for extra layer of checks. In terms of security, the department has taken extensive precautions to safeguard the integrity of the examination process. We have completed audits of all storage facilities across the country to ensure they meet the required standards for secure handling of examination material.”
